The median company on the register is 10.1 years old. 23 per cent of it was incorporated in the last three years; 50 per cent more than ten years ago. The largest town is LONDON with 2,696 companies, 34 per cent of the total. 50 per cent file small accounts and 31 per cent file full ones. More companies still trading were incorporated in 2025 than in any other year, 752 of them.

How the register formed

This counts companies that are active today, grouped by the year they were incorporated. It is a picture of who survived, not of who started. Incorporations up to 1993 are shown as one bar holding 525 companies.

The oldest incorporation still on the register is from 1895, the newest from 2026, a span of 132 years. 23 per cent of the register is under three years old and 50 per cent is over ten. The weight of the register sits with companies that have been trading for a decade or more.

Where they are

Towns come from the registered office address, cut to the town and the postcode district. A registered office is where the paperwork goes, which is not always where the work happens.

2,637 companies file above the small company thresholds, 33 per cent of the register. The rest sit within them.

Age and filing threshold move together

Companies filing full accounts have a median age of 19.4 years, against 9.8 years for those filing small accounts, a gap of 9.6 years. The full filers number 2,485, the small filers 4,001, so the comparison is between a small group and a large one. A threshold is crossed by growing, and growing takes time, so the direction is what you would expect; the size of the gap is the part worth citing.

How a company gets on to this register

Three routes, counted separately, because the route decides what the entry is evidence of.

5,449 companies were picked up by code alone, 68 per cent of the register. 2,547 were added from what they filed rather than from the code.

5,449 companies declare 62030, the facilities management code, which is 68 per cent of the register. The other 2,547 appear under a broader description only, 32 per cent of the register. That is the gap a search on the single code would miss. 4,572 companies declare more than one code, 57 per cent of the register.

What this counts, and what it does not

Survivors, not formations

Every figure here is drawn from companies active on the register at the retrieved date. A company incorporated in 2014 and dissolved in 2019 is absent. The year chart therefore shows how many companies from each year are still trading, which is a different number from how many were formed.

SIC codes are self-declared

A company picks its code at incorporation and rarely revisits it. Some managed providers sit under a broader code, and some companies under the managed IT code do something else entirely.

The accounts category is a threshold

It records which filing rules a company met at its last accounts. It is not turnover, headcount, quality or standing, and this page never treats it as any of those.

Coverage is the codes tracked

The pull covers the codes this register tracks, plus companies added on request. It is not every managed IT provider in Britain, and no claim is made that it is.

Town is the registered office

It is the address on the register, cut to the town. A company registered at its accountant's office in one town and working from another is counted in the first.

Exclusions

Of 7,996 records: 20 without a town. Each statistic states the number it was computed on.

The numbers on this page may be quoted and the charts reproduced, with a link back. They are recomputed from the register on every build, so a figure cited today may differ from the same figure next month; the retrieved date above says which snapshot you are reading.
